WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results – 1.8.2021

Quick Results For January 8th, 2021

As always, you can stop by here again this weekend for a review of tonight’s episode featuring two titles on the line & a Gauntlet Match to determine The #1 Contender for The Universal Championship.

  • Roman Reigns, Jey Uso & Paul Heyman opened the show with Roman calling down Adam Pearce to scold him for making a match last week & a gauntlet match for tonight without his permission. He then threatened Pearce after he assumed Pearce thought he was stupid & couldn’t pick his own opponent correctly. After grabbing Pearce, Heyman intervened & talked Roman down & he assured Pearce he’s “Safe for now”.
  • Intercontinental Championship Match: Big E (c) defeated Apollo Crews
The match was restarted after a double pin occurred & defaulted to a Big E win. Crews demanded a rematch & it was accepted. Big E pinned Apollo with The Big Ending.
  • Backstage, Adam Pearce met with Sonya Deville who appears to be in line for the new SmackDown GM.
  • Bianca Belair & Bayley both declared for The Women’s Royal Rumble Match.
  • SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode defeated The Street Profits (c)
Ziggler knocked off Dawkins from the apron allowing he & Roode to connect with a Spinebuster/Zig-Zag combination to pin Ford. Roode & Ziggler are The new SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
  • Paul Heyman informed Adam Pearce that Roman Reigns & he pulled some strings & inserted Pearce into The Gauntlet Match.
  • Billie Kay asked to join The Riott Squad & they refused. Billie began crying & Liv replied “It’s not that we don’t want you…” & before she could finish, Billie took that as acceptance to the group & ran off celebrating.
  • Universal Championship #1 Contender Gauntlet Match Winner: Adam Pearce
Rey Mysterio pinned Sami Zayn immediately with a 6-1-9, followed by a Frog Splash. Shinsuke Nakamura tapped out Mysterio next after getting his knees up as Rey went for another Frog Splash & transitioning into an Arm Bar. Nakamura then pinned King Corbin with a Kinshasa as he reentered the ring. Daniel Bryan went for his running dropkicks in the corner, but Nakamura caught him on the third one with a Kinshasa & pinned him. That left Adam Pearce & Nakamura as the final two, with Reigns, Uso & Heyman coming out beforehand & accompanying Pearce to the ring. Roman & Jey jumped Nakamura & laid him out with a Superman Punch, then a Splash. Reigns then ordered Pearce into the ring, where he was Superkicked by Uso & dragged onto Nakamura to get the pin. Pearce will face Roman Reigns at The Royal Rumble.
