Staff Picks: AEW Double or Nothing 2021

Heya folks! A bunch of us writers gathered around the great SteelRingPost and decided to start a pick ’em column for big shows. As it turns out, there just so happens to be a big show (not Paul Wight) occurring TONIGHT! With that being said, here’s the card for tonight’s AEW Double or Nothing:

  1. Serena Deeb vs Riho – NWA Women’s World Championship
  2. Cody Rhodes vs Anthony Ogogo
  3. Mox/Kingston vs Young Bucks – AEW Tag Team Championships
  4. Britt Baker vs Hikaru Shida – AEW Women’s World Championship
  5. Miro vs Lance Archer – TNT Championship
  6. Hangman Adam Page vs Brian Cage
  7. Casino Battle Royale
  8. Inner Circle vs Pinnacle – Stadium Stampede
  9. Sting/Darby Allin vs Scorpio Sky/Ethan Page
  10. Kenny Omega vs Orange Cassidy vs PAC – AEW World Championship

And before we get started on these wild predictions, allow me to introduce the participating writers for this project:

  • Anthony – Alleged Indie Contributor to Steel Ring Post
  • Phil – I built this place.
  • Robert – Heya folks! I’m the Irish one, the one they call Blade. I recap Dynamite for you, the best show to keep you entertained!
  • Mitchiner Underhill – Off-and-on-again author of the Monday Night Rewind.
  • Alison – Writer of the Dark; Fan of the Undercard
  • Bachur – Evening, folks! I’m Bachur, the guy that used to write about early 2000s SmackDown every week. Great to see you again! The Double or Nothing card doesn’t look like a surefire hit, BUT it’s got Miro vs. Lance Archer, and that’s good enough for me.

Now that we are all familiar with each other, let’s go over the rules. Each writer gave their pick (1) and what they thought SHOULD happen (2)! For the Casino Battle Royale, we also asked for predictions on who would be The Joker and one out-of-left field pick for it, known as the (get this!) Joker’s Wild. See what I did there?!? Shut the fuck up Blade, let’s get to it! Without further ado:

Riho vs Serena Deeb (c) – NWA Women’s World Championship Match

See the source image

Anthony –
1.  Deeb Wins
2. Riho because, that would be a good thing for her and NWA.

Phil –
1. Riho
2. Riho, because it adds some more substance to these partnerships. Give us Aldis and that 10 pound belt, dammit.

Robert –
1. Deeb Wins (no LOL)
2. I’d like to see Riho win to further elevate the title but I think Serena keeps her reign alive.

Mitchinell Underhill –
1. Deeb
2. It’s good to see more women’s matches on the card, but I can’t see them giving another company’s belt away on the preshow

Alison –
1. Deeb wins
2. Riho because, that would be a good thing for her and NWA.

Bachur –
1. The now-heel Deeb retains the title by the skin of her teeth
2. Riho should probably win if it means getting her on weekly TV. Crowds are back, give them some Riho!

Cody Rhodes vs Anthony Ogogo

Anthony –
1. Cody because America.
2. Ogogo because America.

Phil –
1. Ogogo
2. Cody breaks Ogogo’s hand with a frying pan covering his stomach hidden under his tracksuit. Or, you know, Ogogo actually figures out how pins work and wins that way.

Robert –
1. Ogogo goes goo-goo for the win
2. Ogogo needs to go over to establish him as a threat in AEW

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. Ogogo
2. This is just wishful thinking; it’s Memorial Day weekend, I know the power of Murrica is too strong.

Alison –
1. Cody because America.
2. Ogogo because America.

Bachur –
1. Ogogo
2. We gave QT Marshall an entire faction for the sole purpose of putting Anthony Ogogo over, just put Anthony Ogogo over.

Jon Moxley/Eddie Kingston vs The Young Bucks (c) – AEW Tag Team Championships

See the source image

Anthony –
1. Bucks
2. Bucks, they will lose to Uno and Grayson on a special episode of Dynamite

Phil –
1. Mox/Kingston
2. Bucks, because Mox and Kingston are just two singles guys thrown together.   😛

Robert –
1. Young Bucks Win
2. Damnit, Khan! Give me Mox and Kingston as champs, today!!!

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. Bucks
2. Spoiler alert, I’m taking Kenny in the main, so I don’t think it makes sense for the other Elite champs to lose.

Alison –
1. Bucks
2. Bucks, they will lose to Uno and Grayson on a special episode of Dynamite.

Bachur –
1. The Young Bucks retain on account of being a tag team
2. Mox and Kingston somehow beat the Bucks (in a good match, inshallah) and lose the belts on Dynamite to FTR.

Britt Baker vs Hikaru Shida (c) – AEW Women’s World Championship

See the source image

Anthony –
1. Shida because, she just got a new shiny belt
2. Shida because, I want to see Britt go into a crazed downward spiral before murdering Shida

Phil –
1. Baker
2. Baker. This is the only correct answer

Robert –
1. Baker Wins
2. THE ERA OF DMD STARTS NOW!!!

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. Britt Baker
2. As much as we may give her the old Roman treatment of not wanting what’s forced on us, Shida celebrating her anniversary as champ is too much foreshadowing.

Alison –
1. Britt Baker
2. D! M! D!

Bachur –
1. Britt wins.
2. Yeah, Britt wins.

Lance Archer vs. Miro (c) – TNT Championship Match

See the source image

Anthony –
1. Miro
2. Miro, he will drop it to Hangman eventually.

Phil –
1. Miro
2. Miro forever

Robert –
1. Miro Wins
2. I wish they would have waited a couple feuds down the road for this one. I think a good story could’ve been built to have Archer dethrone Miro. Today’s not the day for that because today is Miro Day! Happy Miro Day Everyone!

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. I legit don’t know; my instinct says Miro because he’s just getting started, but Archer is too much of a monster to bet against
2. Probably a fuck finish.

Alison –
1. Miro
2. Miro, he will lose it to Hangman eventually

Bachur –
1. Miro retains and holds onto the TNT Championship for a year.
2. God, this match is gonna rule

Hangman Adam Page vs. The Machine Brian Cage

See the source image

Anthony –
1. Page
2. Page

Phil –
1. Hangman
2. Cage should win as a statement against 50/50 booking. Or Page because he rules.

Robert –
1. Page beats Cage
2. I wish Ethan was fighting Christian on this card too.  Alas, it’s Adam and Brian, in which I want Adam to beat Brian and for Team Taz to beat Cage out of the group.

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. Page
2. Cage took it last time, so Hangman will be coming back for righteous vengeance. Fingers crossed for some Dark Order on Team Taz Action

Alison –
1. Page
2. Page

Bachur –
1. Hangman gets his momentum back. Could be really good!
2. Hangman, yeah. Hopefully this gets him onto a feud with Kenny, or we can just stretch that out another eight months…

Casino Battle Royale

See the source image
Anthony –
1. Christian Cage
2. Bryan Danielson, fingers crossed
Joker – Nick Gage
Joker’s Wild – Danielson

Phil –
1. Luchasaurus
2. Mystery Entrant #21 because I can’t help but be a mark for this happening every single time.
Joker – Jade Cargill
Joker’s Wild – CM Punk

Robert –
1. Christian Cage outworks everyone
2. CM Punk should win of course – nah, Just kidding. I hate that guy. Give me Max Caster as the winner.
Joker – La Sombra
Joker’s Wild – Bryan Danielson Bella

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. “Hey Siri, insert shrug emoji.”
Joker – CM Punk
Joker’s Wild – Glacier, as a callback to the first DoN

Alison –
1. Christian Cage
2. Jungle Boy, if only because we need some more face winners
Joker – Andrade
Joker’s Wild – Marty Causas (wishful thinking)

Bachur –
1. I don’t know, Nick Gage?
2. Brock Lesnar, but you already knew I’d say that.
Joker – Nick Gage
Joker’s Wild – Brock Lesnar

Inner Circle vs. Pinnacle – Stadium Stampede Match

See the source image

Anthony –
1. Pinnacle
2. Pinnacle, the Inner Circle is prime to move on, individually and for Jericho to do do his Fozzy thing.

Phil –
1. Pinnacle
2. Pinnacle. It’s time for the Inner Circle to move on.

Robert –
1. The Pinnacle continues their destruction of the Inner Circle and MJF gets further ammo against Jericho.
2. Give me The Inner Circle winning and taking all the titles! (Yes, I know it’s not happening. Bugger off!)

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. Pinnacle – Please, God
2. IC has run its course, let PnP and Sammy go be glorious on their own; Jericho and Hager can go scream about being oppressed or something on a podcast.

Alison –
1. Pinnacle
2. Pinnacle, the Inner Circle is prime to move on, individually and for Jericho to do do his Fozzy thing.

Bachur –
1. Pinnacle wins and it goes 35 minutes
2. They somehow manage to have a good serious match under the Stadium Stampede stipulation. Good luck with that, guys!

Scorpio Sky & Ethan Page vs. Darby Allin & Sting

See the source image

Anthony –
1. Sky/Page. Darby turns on Sting after the loss because, everyone turns on Sting eventually.
2. Sky/Page

Phil –
1. Sting/Darby Allin
2. Everyone involved needs to move on to singles pushes. Let’s just hope Sting surprises us here

Robert –
1. Sky and Page win in Page’s PPV debut.
2. Let Sting not die, let Sting not die. But Sky/Page should go over here as Darby/Sting are already established in AEW

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. Sting/Darby
2. As much as I love Sky, I think this tag team is going to be AEW’s big talker that can’t follow through on the big show (see old Bray)

Alison –
1. Sky/Page. Darby turns on Sting after the loss because, everyone turns on Sting eventually.
2. Sky/Page

Bachur –
1. Feels like Ego and Sky get the fall on Sting here to set up Page vs. Darby.
2. I forgot this match was happening.

PAC vs Orange Cassidy vs Kenny Omega (c) – AEW World Championship Match

See the source image

Anthony –
1. Omega
2. Omega because, I believe as well, that Hangman is the one to dethrone Kenny and become AEW’s first Grand Slam Champion.

Phil –
1. Omega
2. Omega, but only if they’ve got a great end to this Belt Collector story set up. If that’s falling apart before All out, then fuck it – pull the trigger on PAC.

Robert –
1. Omega is winning, hands down.
2. Omega should win decisively but I fully anticipate him using the other members of The Elite to pull off the win.

Mitchiner Underhill –
1. Kenny Omega
2. Kenny’s story as champ isn’t done; Hangman is the one to take down the mad king.

Alison –
1. Omega
2. Omega because, I believe as well, that Hangman is the one to dethrone Kenny and become AEW’s first Grand Slam Champion.

Bachur –
1. Kenny retains in a really good three-way
2. PAC wins the AEW belt within the year. Do it.
