Pops & Botches: WWE NXT – 03.31.2021

This Week on WWE NXT: It’s the GO HOME SHOW to the 2 Night NXT Extravaganza NXT Stand & Deliver on the Road to StandDeliverMania baby!

POP: Trouble On Rod’s Mind

I love the story they’re telling here with the fallout of the Undisputed Era breaking up (boy, Bobby’s in for a shocker when he comes back). Roddy’s like the kid in the middle of a divorce who’s lost in the winds and being annoyed by local eccentric tycoons isn’t helping.

Although in Grime$’ defense, all he was doing was trying to help out Roddy with some money. Frankly, Roddy’s overreacting.

“All I know is pain.”

The touches with Roddy being distracted by fans in UE and Adam Cole shirts and ultimately losing because Grime$ brought a UE armband to the ring are also really dope story beats and that attention to detail that NXT has become known for. A+ all around.

Poor guys so distraught, he doesn’t even wanna be in the Battle Royale at the end of the night.

POP: Prince Petty

Escobar lead in to his open challenge with a fired up promo targeted at Finn Balor on Big Head mode that was pretty good. It can be easy to forget sometimes how solid of a promo he is as, in my opinion anyway, it doesn’t get brought up that much.

Prince Pretty answers the challenge and while he is able to put up a significant effort, ultimately he isn’t able to overcome the 3 on 1 disadvantage. The match itself was really good, I wasn’t expecting the amount of back & forth that happened (give me cruiserweight champion Tyler Breeze please).

They tied in some promotion for the (now vacated due to injury) Tag Title Match too with MSK saving Breeze which lead to the *pauses for effect*GGGGRIZZLED YOUNG VETERANS to pop up on screen and talk some trash.

POP: The wAy

The Way show up for their weekly “be the funniest guys on the show” segment while also telling us their Sweet plan to make sure Johnny doesn’t lose his Championship. Have the never watched a Rhea Ripley interview? You never tell people what your plan is, dummies.

Candace & Indi Hartwell-Lumis face off against Zayda Ramier & Gigi Dolin (fka Priscilla Kelly) which are some of the most FCW ass names I’ve heard in a minute.

Match is cool for what it is and I definitely wanna see more of Zayda & Gigi based off of this match alone, but the important part comes when The Way challenge The Moon Tanks for the NXT Womens Tag Team Championships which immediately brings them out to accept and shoot Indi with a missile.

Uncalled for, smh.

POP: Zoey 101

After an ultimately failed attack (in response to last week) from Io Shirai, Raquel has a pretty baller match with Zoey Stark. I gotta say man, I was unfamiliar with her until she was signed to NXT and in a very short time, she’s already become one of my favorite wrestlers on this show. It’s also an interesting match up because she actually rivals Raquel in height, but is a lot quicker and has more agility than she does.

Io tries to get at her again after Raquel wins the match, but she once again is completely trounced by Raquel.

Then a little later, Io tries jumping her a THIRD time and Raquel literally puts her through a wall, Frank Murphy style.

That probably isn’t foreshadowing.

POP: Yeah, Pat Really Was Right

NXT Prime Targets simply do not miss. This right here was the perfect summary of how we got to the Unsanctioned Match between Kyle & Adam at Stand & Deliver that involves betrayal, finger guns, jealousy and cops being called. I don’t even wanna say too much about it, just watch it, even if you already know why the match is happening.

My girl says the same thing every night

POP: Halitosis

The East Coast Avengers still wanna save their clearly too far gone buddy Xia Li for some reason and because this is the WWE the only solution they have is to keep wrestling her until she snaps out of it I guess instead of calling the authorities or something as she has clearly joined a cult of some sort.

At first we think it’s gonna be Xia and Tien(?) competing but since it’s Kacy and Kayden, Xia probably figures she can beat them on her own and she’s not wrong. Especially since for some dumbass reason Kayden bails on the match to go yell at Tien and promptly gets choked out and some stank breath breathed on her for good measure.

“There’s an epidemic spreading among teenagers across the nation. It’s vaping.”

This is why it’s important to wear a mask folks.

POP: Earmuffs Coming Soon to WWEShop.com

POP: Dad Talk

The World’s Oldest Looking Millennial cuts a fired up promo aimed at his opponent for Stand & Deliver, the Man They Call WALTER. Summed up, he explains to him that he’s got his FAMILY and LOVED ONES and FANS on his side! And as long as he has them he can’t possibly fail!

Something tells me that WALTER follows the Brock Lesnar school of caring about families and kids.

POP: Finn and Prey

Now, usually I’m not that excited for a Karrion Kross match, but not only has Finn been on a hot streak of baller title matches the likes of which have not been seen in quite some time, but also this package was dope as hell.

POP: Wednesday Fight Knight

The Gauntlet Eliminator Qualifying Battle Royal (that’s a mouthful) is the maine event and basically it’s a battle royal where the last 6 guys make it to the Gauntlet Eliminator on Night 1 (with the winner of the Royal getting to be the final entrant) and the winner of THAT faces Gargano on Night 2 for the North American Championship.

Feels like it’s been a while since we had a Battle Royal on NXT so this was a welcome change. These matches are always good for furthering multiple storylines going on. You got Leon and Swerve trying to kill each other before the match even starts, Pete and Kushida and their light beef going on, Dexter still isn’t done wooing Indi and he probably still wants that North American Championship, LA Knight wanting to make a big impression after his recent debut and there’s whatever it is that Rusty has going on.

Lumis has the best strategy of the match by simply being so creepy that no one even wants to go near him and he spends most of the match standing still in the corner and guaranteeing him a spot at Stand & Deliver.

It’s a good match too with every person in the match behaving how you would expect them to. Pete and Kushida focusing on each other, Grimes trying to pay Knight and Lumis to take a dive, stuff like that.

Ultimately Knight takes the W with a bit of ingenuity and Johnny calls him “La Knight” to secure his spot as most entertaining person on this show.

Then,

POP: Someone Didn’t Read Corey Graves’ Knuckle Tats

Io ONCE AGAIN walks out to the ring to get Raquel to fight her and frankly at this point if I was Raquel I would just go home, I already put you through a wall, what else is there to say?

Then the entire Womens Locker Room empties out to separate them and Io ends the night by diving on all of them.

Somebody finna die at Stand & Deliver bruh.

Well, that’s the Go-Home show for the show you probably already watched by now (lol).
