Pops & Botches: Beyond Wrestling’s Wear Sunscreen – 8.23.2020

Good day to you, friends! I am back with another Indie Pops & Botches. This time, I bring you the most recent Beyond Wrestling show titled, Wear Sunscreen. It was a sizzling hot day on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, that brought an equally sizzling amount of action. Quick! To the Pops & Botches we go!

POP: The Bird’s Knees

The opening match was a battle between Willow Nightingale and Max Caster. Actually, Willow versus Shook Crew as is the case when Caster has Bryce Donovan, Bobby Orlando, and Bobby, Jr. in tow.

These ding dongs. Of course, a Caster match wouldn’t be complete without a diss track.

Kayfabe aside, no I will not pause the multiverse, I really like Caster. He is a premium talent and has star written all over him. Willow is and will always be one of my favs. These two had a great match, which has become par for the course with these two. Of course, Shook Crew shenanigans ensued but, Nightingale was able to hold them off to pick up the win.

After the bell, Shook Crew attacked Nightingale. This brought out Nightingale’s The Bird and The Bee tag partner, Solo Darling, to make the save.

POP: The Bee’s Knees

We immediately jump into the next match where Solo Darling faces off against Pinkie Sanchez. Sanchez got into Darling’s mind during his intro when he came out with Darling’s companion, Officer Magnum, dressed a demon dog. Officer Magnum, Nightingale, and Darling were not amused.

This was drop down, drag out fight that had, what seemed like, a botched finish where Sanchez scored the victory after a moonsault.

It was a good match and I didn’t feel the ending hurt it too much.

POP: Trouble In Bear Country

The following tag match was here to further the story of turmoil in Bear Country, between Bear Bronson and Bear Boulder, as they took on the team of Pretty Proper. Pretty Proper consists of “The Savage Gentleman” Victor Benjamin and Lady Frost. Pretty Proper looked really good in the match displaying some pretty strong looking offense.

Bear Country used their strength to control most of the match but, some miscommunication on the outside lead to there demise as, Pretty Proper hit a nice looking finisher for the win.

Bronson and Boulder argued after the match and did not seem to be okay. We’ll see what is in store for the, possibly former, aces of the Beyond tag division.

POP: Raining Kats and Dogs

So, one of the drawbacks of an outdoor show is possible weather issues. This show had two. Now, neither of them really were a detriment to the show but, it was noticeable in some spots throughout the show. Slade is bruiser and he was relentless in his attack on Allie, who was coming off being put through a flaming table the day before.

That’s one tough Kat. Allie was able to get back into it with a low blow. Allie attempted a piledriver on the boardwalk but, possibly due to the rain, dropped Slade awkwardly. They recovered and Allie rolled Slade back in and hit him with a Lari-kat for the W.

POP: ‘Tis the SZN

Next match up was a tag match between Injustice’s Myron Reed and Jordan Oliver versus Culture SZN’s Christian Casanova and Tasha Steelz. This match rocked! All four are fantastic wrestlers and Reed and Oliver work so well together. Casanova and Steelz held their own as well in this fast paced match that the camera crew had trouble keeping up with. I haven’t covered Steelz before in any reports but, I have seen her live at a Sabotage Wrestling show and, she is very good. She spent some time in NWA recently before finding a new home on Impact. Hey, seems like these indie P&Bs may become Impact coverage soon. Both teams brought it in this match with some great moves.

Honestly, folks, follow SirLARIATO on Twitter. Their GIF game is the best.

Finish came when Oliver hits Steelz with a chain to pick up the tainted win. Oliver! You little shit! Hope we see this match up again soon.

POP: BRAND WARS

The semi main event was a battle between Impact’s Kimber Lee and AEW’S Joey Janela. If you are familiar with these two, you know this one was good. Janela played the heel this match and bailed a few times to start the match. So, Lee made sure to bring the fight to him.

This was a slug fest, and took place when the heat started to become a major factor during the show. That didn’t stop Lee and Janela though, they really delievered.

Finish came when Janela hit a vicious double stomp on Lee to gain the pin.

SEE THIS MATCH!

Post match involved shared water, IN THIS ENVIRONMENT, and mad respect. Two pros giving a fantastic performance to a very receptive crowd.

POP: Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

Closing out the show was a true David versus Goliath match, Chris Dickinson versus Priscilla Kelly. The story here was the size disparity and the heat. Both performers were gassed, this was not a conditioning thing folks, this was a hot, humid day making this a triple threat match. Credit to Dickinson and Kelly as they still managed to put on a hell of a match.

Again, don’t let the size disparity fool you, Kelly fought her ass off.

Alas, it was not enough as Dickinson tapped Kelly out with an STF. Outstanding performance, all things considered.

Post match saw Dickinson get on the mic and talk about the art form that wrestling is, especially intergender wrestling. Not sure if you noticed but, every match on this show featured a woman. Sorry, not sorry, Lance.

There you have it! Another fantastic Beyond Wrestling show in the books. As always, check them out on IWTV, you won’t regret it. Also, check them out on their youtube page, they got tons of content on there.

I’ll be back a little later with my last show I watched from the weekend, GCW Presents: Jimmy Lloyd’s Jersey Shore. Good news, no one from 44.OH is scheduled to appear!

As always, thanks for reading! Be safe and take care.

Wear A Mask.
