Pops & Botches: Zelo Pro Wrestling Stronger Together – 8.15.2020

Hello, hello! Its me, again. Bringing you some good ol’ Indie Wrestling! This time I come bearing the gift of Zelo Pro Wrestling. Zelo Pro is a Chicago based Indie that started back in 2017. I say this because, this show, Stronger Together, is a celebration of their three years of existence. So, live, from Joe’s Bar on Weed St. (Hehehe), I bring you Pops & Botches: Zelo Pro Wrestling’s Stronger Together!

POP: Oh, hi, Matt!

ZELO PRO WRESTLING

“The Drama King” Matt Rehwoldt, fka Aiden English, is here on commentary! Hmm. . .

POP: Stupid, sexy match

The opening match was a fun little battle between “One Sexy Mofo” Bryce Benjamin and “Buns Of Steel” Jay Fowler! This was a wrestling match, masquerading as a comedy match. I’ve seen Bryce Benjamin before, in a different incarnation, wrestling as Jesus Bryce in Freelance Wrestling. This dude is good, and versatile! Here he is one sexy mofo, slinking around the ring, as seductive as can be. Jesus Bryce, much different.

On the other side, we have Jay Fowler, who I have not seen before. He has a bit of Ryuske Taguchi in him, totally a compliment. He has quite a bit of ass-based offense and, just like Taguchi, it works! These two put on a very good match that ended when, after Fowler had been pantsed, Benjamin surprised him with a roll up for the victory.

POP: Zelo Pro: The Show 20

The next match was the Freelance Wrestling Academy Invitational featuring Israel Angels, Trevor Outlaw, “The Maniac” Jacob Dean and War Bear. This was a showcase for some fresh faces in Zelo Pro, via Freelance, and all four guys really showed something in this. Outlaw shined the most for his character work as the heel. I mean, check this out!

That’s Angels, on the receiving end of the low blow. He’s got a good babyface look to him but, I bet he could be a good heel if he so chooses.

Dean has the look of a pro wrestler, and he showed some good strength as well. War Bear is a bruiser. Again, everyone looked good, but Dean was able to snags the win by pinning Outlaw.

POP/BOTCH: Feed me more. . . of the match, not food

So, this next match was a mixed bag for me. It featured “Chicago’s Sweetheart” Missa Kate and Jay Raves. Also in volved, the ref who took a walk to get some chips during the match.

Look, I love me some comedy but, when it takes away – not adds – to the match, I’m not a big fan of it. Especially since Kate and Raves had a really good match! I’ll be honest, I’m new to Zelo Pro, so this may be a recurring thing. All I know is, it didn’t work for ME. No shade though, when you gotta eat, you gotta eat. Missa Kate ends up defeating Jay Raves and I will be keeping an eye out for these two in the future.

POP: Heel shenanigans

Everyone knows how I feel about heel factions. Well, at least one in particular.

Look at those assholes.

Well, Zelo Pro has their own heel faction, The Blackheart Battalion. The leader is a guy named, “The Filth King” Brubaker. Joining him are, Jason Hades and Storm Grayson. The latter two had a tag match against Sage Philips and, star on the rise, Cole Radrick who had a banger with Kylie Rae at GCW’S Keep In Touch, Popped and Botched by yours truly.

These four had a pretty decent match that was upended when heel shenanigans came into play as Grayson was able to pin Radrick with an assist from his Blackheart brethren.

After the match, Brubaker called out Freelance Academy Invitational winner, Jacob Dean, for an impromptu match. Brubaker made quick work of him, which also had some heel shit. He then called out a tag team named, The Bang Bros, who were able to pick up the win on Brubaker via disqualification, due to Hades interference. This resulted in the Ref getting his ass kicked for daring to hold the heels accountable.

How Dare He! /s

This was all a roundabout way for Brubaker to call out guest commentator, Rehwoldt, and challenge him to a match at Zelo Pro’s next show.

POP: Hair!

JJ GARRETT

He’s beautiful.

That’s JJ Garrett, your new fav. Don’t worry folks, he’s not just a pretty face with a luscious mane. He’s a good wrestler too! He faced CJ Esparza, who’s no slouch himself, in a fun match to cool thing off after that heavy heel angle that preceded it. Esparza ended up winning after he hit Garrett with a shooting star elbow.

Oh well, maybe next time, JJ.

POP: Get turnt!

We finished the evening with Brooke Valentine challenging “The Too Turnt Party Unicorn” Laynie Luck for the Zelo Pro Women’s Championship. I have seen Luck live before at a Sabotage Wrestling show, last year, where she faced then War Of The Genders Champion, GPA. Luck was good then, she’s even better now. I mean, how can you not love a Unicorn that does good lucha things?

Valentine impressed, as this was my first time seeing her. The had a really good match that ended when Luck hit Valentine Uni-cutter to gain the pin.

The cliffhanger/stinger for the show was a Dark Unicorn coming out, who just so happened to be Elayna Black. Black made her intentions know that she wants a shot at Luck’s title at Zelo Pro’s next show.

That’s it! Zelo Pro’s first show since January was svelte two hour show that accomplished what it needed to. If you’re interested, you can catch a replay of the show on FITE TV! They’re next show will be on Thursday, September 17th.

Heads up for the Indie Crowd: next week is packed! I will be bringing P&Bs for two GCW shows, two Black Label Pro shows, and one Beyond Wrestling show. That’s right, five Pops & Botches from yours truly!

Until then, thanks for reading. Be safe and take care.

Wear A Mask.
